WEEKLY PLANNER WEEK OF 7/18/22
The Week Ahead:
Last week we had some pieces of energy come through and clouds that kept temperatures down into the mid to upper 80s. Dew points were high, but the temperatures were kept mild. THIS WEEK will not be like that. Essentially, after Monday we go through the rest of the week with temperatures in the 90s. Heat indices will certainly feel like they will be in the triple digits.
Thursday looks to be the hottest. And when you get heat coming our way you can have thunderstorms anytime. Late Monday night into Tuesday morning there could be a possible strong storm coming through as a powerful low flies north. This could drag a front through that could touch off some storms.
This SPC (Storm Prediction Center) graphic shows the marginal risk throughout the country through Tuesday.
GFS outlook for a strong system coming in late Monday and early Tuesday. This could drag a small frontal system through. This would be a minor system if it were to happen.

TROPICAL OUTLOOK
This is Hurricane Estelle. Estelle is NOT an issue for us. Estelle is in the NE Pacific Basin. Yet, she has grown into a significant beast already. She has sustained winds of 65kts. Her center is a bit disorganized right now. Yet, she’s trying to form a tighter eye. Estelle is forecast to grow into at least a Category 3 over the next few days. She is not expected to impact land.
Go Estelle!
The Hurricane Season
The 2022 Hurricane Season is still expected to be an active one. NOAA forecasts are for 14-16 named storms and 5-6 major hurricanes. Right now, to date, we have had 3 named hurricanes. Yet, remember, the hurricane season begins on June 1st. We are only 1.5 months into this season. We still have August through October to go. And meteorologically speaking, the tropical season really ramps up in August through October. So, we have many weeks to go. Personally, I’m thinking we might have a little less than 14 named hurricanes and it will be somewhere between 11-12 named hurricanes, but I’m good with the 5-6 major hurricanes that threaten the North American mainland.
